Pratham
Pratham is the largest non governmental organization working to provide quality education to the underprivileged children of India.
Pratham was established in Mumbai in 1994, with the support of UNICEF. It now has activities in 14 states of India and has supporting organisations in the US and UK.
Some of the programs of Pratham are:
- Direct intervention programs such as Balwadis (pre-school education), Learning support programs, Libraries and mainstreaming of out of school children.
- Read India initiative that promotes early literacy initiatives for the disadvantaged children in India via its community reach programs to improve the learning in basic math, reading and writing amongst sixty million children.
- Pratham Council for Vulnerable Children – reaching out and addressing issues of all vulnerable children
The Technology Alumni Association, Bangalore (IIT Kharagpur Alumni Association, Bangalore) has teamed up with SELCO, a social enterprise started by IIT Kharagpur alumnus Dr Harish Hande to support Light for Education. Menda Foundation is headed by Shri. Arjun Menda (M. Tech from IIT, Kharagpur) who is also Chairman of RMZ Corp has offered matching grant for all donations received towards Light For Education.
