Pradeep Kumar (IITD) has been selected as the new Central Vigilance Commissioner (CVC). The selection was made by a high-power committee headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. After completing his degree in Electrical Engineering from IIT Delhi, Kumar joined the civil service. He has held a number of key positions both at the Centre and in Haryana. Prior to this appointment, Kumar had a long stint of over three years in the Defence Ministry, where he also held the post of Defence Production Secretary.

Pradeep Kumar is known for his impeccable reputation—a key factor that many regarded as the Defence Minister’s main criterion for an official to manage his ministry. During his tenure, he ensured that the ministry steered clear of any controversy of corruption. In a record of sorts, the ministry managed to spend all of its allocated budget in the last financial year under his stewardship.
