Prof Pradipta Banerji (IITD1981) has recently stepped in as the new Director of IIT Roorkee. Before this, he was a professor of Structural Engineering at IIT Bombay. In his new capacity, he is focusing on attracting new faculty and working toward making IIT Roorkee the best in the country and the world.

Prof Banerji obtained the Director’s Silver Medal as the top-ranked graduating student in Civil Engineering for his B Tech degree from IIT Delhi in 1981. He went on to complete his MS (1982) and PhD (1987) in Structural Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, USA, with specialization in Earthquake Engineering. At Berkeley, he was awarded the UC Regents’ Fellowship twice, Popert Research Fellowship, and Distinguished Teaching Award. He has also received the exclusive National Science Talent Scholarship in India.
