IIT Guwahati http://www.iitg.ernet.in/ Bus was in sight; adrenaline was rushing through the veins. Within a few minutes they will be brushing past the loveliest sport in the “whole world”. Ask any resident of the Hostel no.1 in bhangagarh of the heydays, the memories of the college bus passing by the gates of the Handique Girls’ college are still fresh as if it were yesterday. Life will never be same again. Hostels have since been moved to campus 20 km away from the heart of Guwahati City. Life has come to centre upon achieving excellence in academics rather than “simple pleasures” of life.

IIT - GuwahatiIIT Guwahati or IITG was established in 1994 as a result of Rajiv Gandhi accord and the academic programme concerned in 1995. It is growing up fast to be one of the most promising engineering research centers in the world today having attained this stature without collaboration or assistance from any foreign university or government.

IIT - GuwahatiLocated in the land of “The Red River and Blue hills” IIT Guwahati possesses unarguably one of the most beautiful campus in India that attracts many visitors by its spell-binding picturesque surroundings. Campus is situated on the northern banks of the mighty river Brahmaputra with Guwahati city on the opposite side of the river. Important buildings like the Academic complex, Administrative building, Central Library and Computer Center and the Student Activity Center has state of art facilities installed in them. Hostels are named after various rivers and tributaries of north-east India. Many other hostels in the plan are rapidly coming up as a part of the campus construction.

IIT Guwahati CampusIIT Guwahati was the first IIT to introduce design as one of the disciplines at Undergraduate level. Extra-curricular activities are an essential part of any education and it is no different at IIT Guwahati. Every year, two major national level festivals are organized by the students of IIT Guwahati. IIT - GuwahatiTechniche, the science and technological festival is held in beginning of September while the cultural festival, Alcheringa, is held at end of January.

Alcheringa is the biggest cultural festival of its kind in the entire north-east India and draws huge amounts of crowd from all over India. Inter-batch rivalries are sorted out in intra-IIT cultural festival named Manthan, held every year during October. There is also an annual sports meet organized where many collages from north-east India participate.
