IIT - Delhi

IIT Delhi http://www.iitd.ernet.in/ Arvind of Ara kataed IILT3 and became a kailashpati to get his tote. Sadly, all he landed with was a super Dikka. If you were from IITD you would know what this meant! The wonderful world of IIT Delhi which has produced world class achievers like Rajat Gupta, Vinod Khosla, Madhu Sudan, Anurag Dikshit, Rajinder Singh Pawar, Vijay K Thadani, Ankit Sethi and Vikrant Bhargava has a long and proud heritage.

Established as college of Engineering in 1961, the Institute was declared an Institution of National importance under the IIT Delhi Campus'Institutes of Technology (Amendment) Act 1963' and was renamed 'Indian Institute of Technology Delhi'. HRH Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, laid the foundation stone of the institute on January 27, 1959 and Prof. Humayun Kabir, the then Union Minster for Scientific Research and Cultural Affairs inaugurated the institute on August 21, 1961. The Institute buildings were formally opened by Dr.Zakir Hussain, the then President of India, on March 2, 1968.

IIT Delhi Computer LabWith clean and wide roads, the campus presents a spectacle of harmony in architectural and natural beauty. Most of the students, faculty and staff reside on the campus. The main academic building houses various teaching and research facilities. The Students Activity Center provides facilities for recreation like a swimming pool, a gymnasium hall with squash courts, hobbies worshop, seminar rooms, music rooms and a modern amphitheatre. The students live in a 8 boys' and 2 girls' hostels.

IIT Delhi HostelApart from academics and grades, life at IIT Delhi revolves around a rich calendar of extra-curricular events focused on sports and cultural activities. Some of the major events include Tryst - The technical festival in February, Rendezvous - the cultural festival that all of Delhi waits for in September and Sportech - the sports festival in November every year.

In 2003, Eklavya, a technology channel was launched by IIT Delhi in partnership with IGNOU to bring technology to the masses in India. Even its website is available in Hindi - making it accessible to all.

Note: Ara is a boy’s hostel, kailash is the ladies hostel, IILT 3 is a lecture hall, tote means ‘pretty girl’ and Dikka is the dreaded D grade.
