Afroz Taj says that Purnima has trusted the world with her personal experiences through her writing. We are fortunate that her stories are available to us to teach Hindi as 2nd language at Triangle Area Universities. I was introduced to her during a Kavi Sammelan. Delicate and talented, was her smile covering up her pain or the pain described in her stories is foreign to her life? Her flight to write started with her story ‘Udan’. Her flight continues.
Her fearlessness is like a jewel on her pen, especially when she lives among the same people, whom she describes in her stories. Ruchita Singh of New York says that the characters cannot be biographical because of conflicting characteristics between stories. Either way both of them say that freedom of writing is obvious all across. Her stories look for conclusion in the lives of the readers. For her no one is a stranger.
