The Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT's) have become a watchword for technological and business excellence. Its fame has spread far and wide, and today IITians are in leadership positions in technology and industry around the world. The phenomenal success of IITians has not only enhanced the reputation of our alma mater, but also of India, whose technological potential we have served to highlight.

The PanIIT organization enables us leverage our network to help make a proactive contribution to nation-building, provide networking opportunities to members of the IIT system, and make contributions to the IIT institution.
IIT - Kharagpur
IIT Kharagpur was the first of the seven IITs, established in 1951 and is located 120 kms west of Kolkata. The campus is a township of about 20,000 inhabitants. The Science and Technology Entrepreneurs' Park (STEP) provides infrastructure facilities to alumni who want to become entrepreneurs but lack infrastructure to start their own corporation. IIT - Bombay
IIT Bombay was established in 1958, with the cooperation and participation of the erstwhile Government of USSR under UNESCO's technical assistance programme. Today the institute is recognized as one of the centre of academic excellence in the country, reputed for the outstanding caliber of the students graduating from it. It is a fully residential University located at Powai, which is an eastern suburb in the North-eastern part of the metropolitan city, Mumbai, in India. The Kanwal Rekhi School of Information Technology, Shailesh J Mehta School of Management and School of Bio-Sciences and Bio-engineering are initiatives, of the last decade. An Entrepreneurship Cell has been established to guide students and promote entrepreneurship. SINE, Society for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, hosted by Indian Institute of technology Bombay is an umbrella for promotion of entrepreneurship at IIT Bombay. IIT - Madras
IIT Madras was the third among the seven IITs to be established by the Government of India in 1959. A residential institute located in city of Chennai, it has nearly 100 laboratories. All Sponsored Research and Consultancy activities in the Institute are coordinated by the Centre for Industrial Consultancy and Sponsored Research (IC & SR). Some of major recent initiatives at the Institute include three new Departments (Bio Technology, Engineering Design and Management Studies), 5 - Year integrated programme in Humanities, IIT Madras Research Park and Inter-Disciplinary Research Projects.. IIT - Kanpur
The Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IIT Kanpur) is one of the recent IITs, set up in the then-industrial city of Kanpur, India in 1960. From its very inception, IIT Kanpur has been striving to develop itself into an institution of excellence in education and research in consonance with the contemporary and future needs of India. Under the guidance of eminent economist John Kenneth Galbraith, IIT Kanpur was the first institute in India to start Computer Science education. The Institute has a number of facilities, including the National Wind Tunnel Facility, one of the country's best Bio-technology center, the Advanced Center for Electronic systems, and the Samtel Center for Display Technology among others. The institute is also going to get a state of the art nanotechnology research centre soon. Apart from this, IIT Kanpur also has its own airfield, for flight testing and gliding activities. IIT - Delhi
Established as college of Engineering in 1961, the Institute was declared an Institution of National importance under the 'Institutes of Technology (Amendment) Act 1963' and was renamed 'Indian Institute of Technology Delhi'. With clean and wide roads, the campus presents a spectacle of harmony in architectural and natural beauty. Most of the students, faculty and staff reside on the campus. The main academic building houses various teaching and research facilities. The Students Activity Center provides facilities for recreation like a swimming pool, a gymnasium hall with squash courts, hobbies workshop, seminar rooms, music rooms and a modern amphitheatre. IIT - Guwahati
IIT Guwahati or IITG was established in 1994. Located in the land of "The Red River and Blue hills" IIT Guwahati possesses unarguably one of the most beautiful campus in India that attracts many visitors by its spell-binding picturesque surroundings. IIT - Roorkee
IIT Roorkee is the most recent of the seven IITs but it has a legacy that goes back to 1847- a formidable history of more than 155 years. Established as Roorkee college in 1847 it was the First Engineering College in the British Empire. The College was renamed as Thomason College of Civil Engineering in 1854. In 1949 the status of erstwhile college was elevated to the First Engineering University of Independent India. The Institute celebrated its 150th anniversary in October 1996. In 2001, University of Roorkee was declared as the nation's seventh Indian Institute of Technology. The institute is a member of LAOTSE, an international network of leading universities of Europe and Asia exchanging students and senior scholars. IIT - Ropar
Indian Institute of Technology, Ropar is one of the eight new IITs set up by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India. The Institute is located in Ropar, the headquarters of Rupnagar district, Punjab. At present, the institute offers Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech.) programme in Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. In addition, the institute now offers doctoral programme in several disciplines. The classrooms are connected the National Knowledge Network and have facilities for inter-IIT video conferencing. The institute has collaborations with Aston University, Imperial College, London; an the University of Glasgow and University of Strathclyde of the GRPE (Glasgow Research Partnership in Engineering). IIT - Mandi
Indian Institute of Technology Mandi nestles in the Sivalik Range of the Himalayas, away from the bustle of the metropolis. The youngest IIT is located in the forests of Kamand on the banks of Uhl, a tributary of the Beas – about 12km from the historic town of Mandi. The campus in Kamand will offer a world-class academic environment with a high quality of life in a setting of natural splendour. The amenities will include modern classrooms, labs and libraries, sports and extra-curricular facilities, on-campus housing for all faculty and students, guest houses for visitors, a shopping centre, and a school. IIT - Gandhinagar
IIT Gandhinagar (IITGn) was formally inaugurated in August 2008 with its first batch of undergraduate students in the chemical, mechanical and electrical engineering streams. It is located at Chandkheda, about 15 minutes drive from both Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. Currently the Institute is functioning from the premises of the Vishwakarma Government Engineering College. IIT Gn currently offers 4-year B. Tech. programmes in the Chemical, Electrical and Mechanical engineering branches, Ph.D. programmes in several disciplines of Engineering (Chemical, Civil, Electrical and Mechanical), Sciences (Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics) and Humanities & Social Sciences (Cognitive Science, Economics/Finance, English, Philosophy and Sociology). IIT - Hyderabad
IIT Hyderabad started functioning with he first batch of 111 B.Tech. students on August 20, 2008. In January 2009, IIT Hyderabad admitted 11 PhD students.The foundation stone for the institute was laid by Smt. Sonia Gandhi, Hon'ble Chairperson of UPA on February, 27, 2009. Currently, there are six engineering departments in the institute: Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. IIT - Bhubaneswar
IIT Bhubaneswar was established on July 22, 2008 under the mentorship of IIT Kharagpur. A year later the institute started functioning at the temporary campus of IIT Bhubaneswar in Samantapuri, Bhubaneswar. The permanent campus is coming up on 936 acres of land at Arugul, located 20 km away from the main city. Currently the institute has Schools of Basic Sciences, Electrical Sciences, Infrastructure, Mechanical Sciences, and Humanities, Social Sciences and Management. Website: www.iitbbs.ac.in
IIT - Patna
Indian Institute of Technology Patna, was formally registered as a society on 25th July 2008 and commenced its academic programs 6th August 2008. Currently, the institute offers B.Tech programs in three disciplines - Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering and Ph.D. programs in Engineering, Science and Humanities & Social Sciences. IIT - Jodhpur
IIT Jodhpur is one among the new set of IITs announced by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India. Presently IIT Kanpur has been designated as the mentor IIT for looking after the incubation activities of the new IIT in Rajasthan. The academic session at the institute commenced in August 2008 with, a 4-year B.Tech. programme will be offered in three branches: Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. IIT - Indore
IIT Indore started from the academic year 2009-10 as an autonomous engineering and technology institute of higher education. It will come up in 525 acre of land at Simrol, 25 km from Indore. Currently, IIT Bombay is mentoring IIT Indore. The Institute is fully residential and functions from the premises of the Institute of Engineering and Technology, Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya. The institute offers B. Tech. programmes in Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering and Ph.D. programmes in Engineering (Computer Science, Electrical and Mechanical), Sciences (Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics), and Humanities and Social Sciences (Economics, English and Philosophy).
